MORRISVILLE, N.Y. –The Morrisville State women’s soccer team lost a cold and windy match today against Alfred University with a final score of 3-0.
The Saxons took an early lead, netting an unassisted shot from Erika Garrett (Fountain Valley, CA) only 2:52 into the first half.
Nearly 15 minutes later, Garrett scored a second goal for the Saxons, putting the ball to the lower left corner past Morrisville’s Cheyanna Waters (Woodhull, NY).
In the next 30 minutes of play, the Saxons fired 10 more shots, giving Waters a total of seven saves in the first half. The Mustangs ended the half down by two.
In the second half, the Mustangs and the Saxons battled it out almost a full 45 minutes of play without another netted goal until Devin Fitzgerald (Rochester, NY) put the ball to the back of the Mustangs’ net, assisted by Amanda Sullivan (Lexington, MA) with 51 seconds left on the clock. The Mustangs ended the game down by three, making their overall record 3-13.
Waters tallied a total of 11 saves in today’s match, keeping out all but three of Alfred’s 21 shots.
The Mustangs return to the field for their last scheduled game of the season at home against Penn State Harrisburg (NEAC) beginning play at 11 a.m.
Morrisville State begins active membership within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2009-10 and is eligible for NCAA Championship Tournament play.
