Chittenango Lions Provide Community with Funds for Services thumbnail

The Chittenango Lions club in its 38th year of service to the community, recently summed up its report to its membership for 2008-2009. The 40 member organization of men and women worked in three ways.

One, the Lions took part in at least 16 Work Projects in 2008-2009 that included (1) sponsoring its 35th senior citizens dinner, (2) providing maintenance at the Madison County Children’s Camp, (3) taking part in the OZ day parade, (4) cooking dinner for the Dollars for Scholars annual fundraiser, (5) working Community Betterment Day, (6) maintaining the village gazebo, (7) participating in the Memorial Day ceremonies, (8) holding a children’s pumpkin face painting event, (9) collecting used eye glasses, (10) helping on Christmas basket program, (11) holding family Christmas Party, (12) conducting a pre-school vision screen program, (13) providing Village with assistance on its new trail project, (14) working with Village on possible new parkland development, and (15) transporting the visually impaired, (16) installed a ramp for a disabled person.

Secondly, the Lions conducted 6 Fundraising Projects in 2008-2009 to help provide funds for some of the above work projects plus making donations to several worthwhile causes listed below. These fundraisers included: (1) its 13th Lucky number calendar sale, (2) its 36th Christmas tree sale, (3) a year long mint sale in cooperation with local merchants, (4) Fall and Spring raffles, (5) the 6th Yellow Brick Road Run, (6) and accepted donations from the public to be used toward specific projects.

Thirdly, the Lions assisted with 60 Financial Donations in 2008-2009 to organizations for worthwhile causes and to individuals for specific needs. The majority of the donations are returned to the community. However, some contributions beyond the community had to do with District and International causes pertaining to sight, hearing, speech, and health needs. Overall the club provided $16,600 to the following:
