Jon Roberts poses with his winning entry in the Peace Poster Contest.

The Chittenango Lions Club has been busy these last few weeks. The club again was involved in the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum’s Eerie Halloween Fest.

Each year the Lions provide pumpkins, markers, and helpers for a great pumpkin decorating event. The pumpkin coloring seems to attract more kids every year. This year, the Lions purchased 180 jack-o-lanterns to be decorated and taken home by the youthful visitors.

Anna DiChristina, granddaughter of Museum director Joan DiChristina, shows off her happily decorated pumpkin.

Each year, Lions International sponsors an International Peace Poster Contest, which offers young people around the world the opportunity to design a poster in school on the theme of a peaceful world. Once again, the Chittenango Lions hosted a contest at the Chittenango Middle School with the winning poster to be entered into regional, and possibly national and international competitions.

Students of art teachers Katharine Condon and Karen Tashkovski entered brightly colored, skillfully created designs, which communicated through art the need for world peace. This year’s local winner, chosen by a team of judges comprised of retired teachers Steve Waite and Mike Lynch, and Leo Club advisor Rae Haynes, was Jon Roberts.

His winning entry will be entered in the regional competition.
