Techniques on catching brook trout shared at event

(Oneida, NY) Are you wondering what a record brook trout looks like?  Do you wonder how someone can catch a new state record brookie?  You may find answers to these questions and more at the Central New York Sportsman’s Show on Feb. 6 at the Kallet Civic Center.  Meet Tom Yacovella, an award-winning wildlife artist who set a new New York state record last spring with a five-pound, four-and-a-half ounce brook trout.

Yacovella has won numerous awards for his art, and is famous for his creation of a buck sculpture made entirely from shed antlers. He is also an avid outdoorsman and has hunted and fished all his life.  Yacovella has had a special attraction for brook trout because of their beauty and the wild places they inhabit.

In addition to his record brook trout, Yacovella has caught numerous brookies in the two to four pound range. He will share his techniques for these in his seminar at the show.  Visitors to the show will also have a chance to meet him and personally discuss deer hunting, trout fishing and his artistic creations.

Yacovella will also be signing copies of his latest book “Wildlife Art of Tom Yacovella:  Keep Looking For a Bluebird.”

The show also provides the chance to meet and learn from the Salerno Brothers, two of New York’s most successful Adirondack trophy deer hunters.

The event will feature businesses and clubs from the central New York area representing archery, gun shops, charter fishing trips, hunting and fishing equipment and other outdoor related categories. A large collection of mounts will be displayed including the Roosevelt Lucky Buck. An added attraction will be book signings by popular authors on a variety of topics.

Kids might enjoy fishing for live trout and a presentation on live New York state wildlife.

Free seminars will be offered on various topics including one by trophy Adirondack deer hunters Jimmy Massett and Dennis Dipe.

The show will be held at the Kallet Civic Center in Oneida from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $6, 12 years and younger enter free.
