Every year the Sound of Silver Chorus gives scholarships to local graduating high school music students pursuing a career in music. Talented students are nominated by their music teachers. The schools invited to participate are those in the districts where the chorus members live. This year districts included were Oneida City, Baldwinsville, Holland Patent, Remsen, Morrisville, Fayetteville-Manlius, Chittenango, Canastota, Clinton, New Hartford, Oriskany, and Whitesboro.
Jasmine Smith of Oneida High School is the recipient of this year’s scholarship. Jasmine plays alto sax as well as sings and participated in various musicals throughout her high school career. She will be attending SUNY at Oneonta this fall.
A second scholarship is given in memory of Doris Peters, a charter member of Sound of Silver. This scholarship is given to a graduating music student from Oneida High School. This year’s recipient is Brittany Greene.
Both girls were invited to visit the chorus to receive their awards.
