Oneida Healthcare Center Restricts Young Visitors

Oneida Healthcare Center Restricts Young Visitors thumbnail

Due to the current outbreak of respiratory illness, Oneida Healthcare Center is now further restricting visitations by children.

“At this time, all children 18 and under are restricted from visiting the hospital,” said spokesman Mike Healy.

Previously, children 13 and older and even younger healthy siblings of newborns were being allowed into the Maternity Unit.

“But with the amount of flu that is being seen, we decided not allow any children, as a means of further reducing the risk, not just to new moms and babies, but to patients, visitors, employees and volunteers. It’s in everyone’s best interest to try to keep sick people out of the hospital and well people away from those who are ill. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and cooperation,” he said.

The visitation guidelines are as follows:

  • If you are sick, please do not visit anyone at the hospital
  • Please sanitize your hands upon entering and when leaving the hospital (look for wall dispensers)
  • Visitation Hours are between 12pm and 8pm
  • No more than two visitors at a time per patient
  • Please respect the healing environment and needs of the patient and limit your visit time
  • All children 18 and under are restricted from visiting, until further notice.

Healy noted that revised notices are posted at all entrances and throughout the hospital and that the restriction on children will remain in effect, until further notice.
