I have a vision for the Madison County Clerk’s office that is based on one simple fact, the Clerk’s operations are mired in the past. My vision embraces the use of technology and innovation to bring access to the Clerk’s services that meet the true needs of the citizens.
The current operations of the Clerk’s office are based solely on the public traveling to Wampsville to conduct business during the hours of 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
This one fact has been championed by the current clerk as the best manner of providing service to the public. In his statements at the League of Women Voters forum in Oneida on October 13th, the current clerk stated that he sees no need to make any changes at the Clerk’s office. He acknowledged that he has no working knowledge of current information technology and stated that he, like most others his age, doesn’t work with computers.
I find his belief to be naive and detrimental to the citizenry of Madison County.
My vision for the Clerk’s office embraces 21st Century technology and the implementation of a robust customer service approach to the delivery of services. This requires a leadership style that embraces customer service, information technology and proactive management.
Let me be clear, the change needed at the Clerk’s office is the Clerk. Without this change another 4 years will pass with no attempt to update office operations to current standards. I invite you to examine the web sites of the departments at Madison County (http://www.madisoncounty.org/). Most other departments have implemented technology that allows access to their services via the internet.
I also invite you to visit the Broome County Clerk’s office web site (http://www.gobroomecounty.com/clerk) and see the robust manner in which that office embraces technology to serve its customers. The Madison County Clerk’s office is truly way behind the times.
I see no need to change any other personnel in the office. The individuals working in the Clerk’s office take their lead from the current Clerk and work with the tools, policies and practices set by the Clerk. I will bring my proactive, positive management style with my motivational and organizational skills to lead this staff to the current century.
Charles McMahon, Oneida, Candidate for Madison County Clerk

I am concerned that you don’t even know the hours we are open? Yes, motor vehicle is open those hours, but the county clerks office is not. Also, the fact that yes we need to be on-line for the public, but this costs money. Budget restrictions do not allow for this even though they are necessary. I strongly feel that our office is finally getting current with the technology that is needed. In the last 4 years we have received a new lextriever, a new company to take care of our computer system, and 2 grants to back scan all of our deeds and mortgages from 1966 until present. If this isn’t progress then what is?
