MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletic department has named volleyball junior middle hitter, Nicole Wright (Dryden, NY/Dryden) and men’s cross country freshman, Carl Tausend (Cato, NY/Cato-Meridian) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 18, 2009.
Wright was instrumental in leading Morrisville State to a 3-0 week, while remaining undefeated in conference tri-match action. On the week Wright recorded a total 16 kills, three service aces, 29 defensive digs, eight solo blocks and an assisted block.
Against Hartwick, Wright posted nine kills and a tied her season best five solo blocks as they claimed the 3-2 victory. On Saturday, Wright followed with a spectacular defensive performance against Cazenovia, recording 13 digs and two solo blocks in the 3-1 win.
Wright is a two-time SUNYAC All-Academic Team member, earning Commissioner’s List honors last fall.
The 2007 graduate of Dryden High School is majoring in criminal justice at Morrisville State College. She is the daughter of Becky and Bob Ayers of Dryden, N.Y.
Tausend crossed the line second for the Mustangs, 64th overall, at the CCOC Championships held at William Smith College on Saturday.
Tausend dropped over three minutes off his time this season to post a personal and collegiate best in an 8k race with a time of 31:23.32, an average of a 6:25 minute mile.
A 2009 graduate of Cato-Meridian High School, Tausend is majoring in liberal arts and sciences: humanities and social science at Morrisville State College. He is the son of Bridgett and Rick Tausend of Cato, N.Y.
Morrisville State begins active membership within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2009-10 and is eligible for NCAA Championship Tournament play.
