MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The visiting Blue Devils from SUNY Fredonia put five to the back of Morrisville’s net on Saturday, giving the Mustangs their second loss in two days along with a 3-7 overall record.
The Blue Devils took an early lead in the first period with a goal from Jordan Oye (Richmond, British Columbia) assisted by Brett Mueller (Queensbury, N.Y.) at 7:38. Fredonia netted a second goal at 11:22 from Marc Deeley (Rochester, N.Y.) with assists from Will McLaughlin (Mountain Top, P.A.) and Frank Soscia (Richmond Hill, Ontario), giving the Blue Devils a two-goal lead at the end of the first period.
Mat Hehr (Sherwood Park, Alberta) netted a third goal for the Blue Devils 1:12 into the second period with assists from Oye and Mueller. At 10:21, history repeated when Deeley tallied Fredonia’s fourth goal, assists from McLaughlin and Soscia, giving the Blue Devils a four-goal lead.
With less than two minutes left in the second period, the Mustangs put their first past Fredonia’s Pat Street (Annapolis, M.D.), netted by Dave Shultz (Trucksville, P.A.) with assists from Tom Longland (Dunnville, Ontario) and Andrew Alarie (Carlisle, Ontario).
With seven minutes left in game-play, Alarie added a second for the Mustangs, a power-play score with assists from Derek Matheson (Durham, Ontario) and Dana Calderone (Bronx, N.Y.)
The Blue Devils netted their fifth and final goal on an open Mustang net 00:01 before the buzzer, unassisted from Alex Morton (Cannington, Ontario).
Morrisville State keeper Mike Will (Lewes, England) recorded the loss with 22 saves in 30:21 while Mustang keeper David Labaff (Potsdam, N.Y.) totaled 12.
Street tallied a total of 18 saves for the Blue Devils, who improve to a 7-4 overall record.
The Mustangs return to the ice Dec. 12 at 2 p.m., hosting the New England College Pilgrims in the IcePlex.
