MORRISVILLE, N.Y.­ – The Morrisville State College athletic department has named field hockey’s freshman goalkeeper, Kelsey Pellegrino (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) and football junior wide receiver, Joe Shue (Phoenix, NY/G Ray Bodley) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 4, 2009.
 
Pellegrino recorded a career high 26 saves in the double overtime win on Friday over conference rival SUNY New Paltz, securing Morrisville State’s first conference win. On Sunday she added five saves against St. Vincent, as the Mustangs recorded a 2-0 week.
 
On the week, Pellegrino recorded 31 saves in 158 minutes, registered a goals against average of 1.13 and a save percentage of .939.
 
On Monday, Pellegrino was named the SUNYAC Field Hockey Player of the Week.
 
The 2009 graduate of Cicero-North Syracuse is majoring in nursing at Morrisville State College. She is the daughter of Julie and Russ Pellegrino of Cicero, NY.
 
Shue led the Mustangs receiving corps with four catches for a career high 110 yards and two touchdown scores in the 25-17 win over Western Connecticut State University on Saturday.
 
He led the Mustangs comeback with a 70-yard reception for a score minutes into the third quarter to bring Morrisville within two, and later gave the Mustangs their first lead, catching the game winner from 11-yards out midway through the fourth quarter.
 
Shue is currently second on the team in receptions, having caught 16 for 250 yards and three touchdown scores. He is averaging 50 yards per game for the Mustangs.
 
A graduate of G. Ray Bodley High School, Shue is majoring in sports, nutrition and fitness management at Morrisville State College. He is the son of Donna Shue and Michael Whiteman of Phoenix, N.Y.
 
Morrisville State begins active membership within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2009-10 and is eligible for NCAA Championship Tournament play.
