MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women’s field hockey team netted a win Saturday over the St. Vincent Bearcats today, ending the game two goals to one.

The Bearcats outshot the Mustangs in the first half 6-1, giving Morrisville’s keeper Kelsey Pellegrino (Cicero, NY) two saves in 35 minutes.

With 10 minutes left in the first half, the Mustangs net the first goal of the game, scored by Charlotte Brown (Earlville, NY) tipped off a corner feed from Molly Luzak (Burt, NY).

The Bearcats answered the Mustangs’ goal, scoring from a scramble in front of the cage by St. Vincent’s Maria Wohar, making it a tie game into halftime.

The tie remained for nearly 30 minutes until Jamie Anderson (Harpursville, NY) netted the winning goal for the Mustangs off a penalty stroke in the 58th minute of play.

Both teams ended the game with a total tally of 14 shots each, along with making their records 5-7 overall.  Pellegrino saved five for the Mustangs while St. Vincent’s Jackie Novak kept 6 out of the net.

The Mustangs return to the field Wednesday, Oct. 7, playing at Colgate College against Hartwick College at 7:30 pm.
