MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College field hockey team dropped a heartbreaking decision to visiting SUNY Brockport Friday afternoon in Morrisville as the Golden Eagles claimed the 1-0 SUNYAC victory.
The teams played to a scoreless tie through regulation and an additional two 15-minute overtime periods before using the penalty stroke off competition to decide the victor.
Morrisville State held the one stroke advantage before Brockport hit on its third attempt to even the series. Brockport’s Allison Granish connected on the final stroke of the competition to decide the game.
Kelsey Schreiner recorded the win in net, saving nine for the Golden Eagles who improve to 2-6 overall (1-2 SUNYAC).
Kelsey Pellegrino (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) saved two in Morrisville State’s loss, as the Mustangs fall to 3-6 overall, 1-1 in SUNYAC action.
Morrisville State returns to the field tomorrow at SUNY Geneseo. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Geneseo.
Morrisville State begins active membership within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2009-10 and is eligible for NCAA Championship Tournament play.
