(Morrisville, NY) The Morrisville College Equine Institute will hold its twentieth annual Fall Yearling Sale Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. at the college’s Nancy Sears Stowell Arena on Swamp Road.
More than 1,000 people from all over the Northeastern United States, Florida and Canada are expected to attend the sale, which is the largest of its kind in New York state. A total of 243 yearlings are up for sale.
The sale will also feature a preview day, Sept. 26, beginning at 1 p.m.
Twenty-two of the yearlings up for sale are being sold by the Morrisville Equine Institute, including seven offspring of internationally known harness trotter, Conway Hall, sire of the 2004 Hambletonian and trotting Triple Crown winner, Windsong’s Legacy.
This year, the first crop of yearlings by Cash Hall will also be up for sale. Cash Hall is the world record holder for the half-mile track by virtue of a time trial of 1:51.1.
Both Conway Hall and Cash Hall stand stud at Morrisville State College under the management of Walnut Hall Ltd.
The yearling sale, which features year-old Standardbred horses sold on consignment by the college, is organized and run by Morrisville State College Equine Department faculty, staff and students.
Equine students will be working the sale, participating in every aspect of it from bedding stalls, grooming, leading and showing horses, to setting up the business office and assisting with cleanup.
Last year, the sale grossed more than $2 million with two horses topping out at $80,000 and $75,000; the highest amounts ever in the history of the sale.
Profits from the sale go toward general maintenance and enrichment of the college’s equine programs. There is no admission charge and the public is welcome to attend.
