MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men’s soccer team suffered a tough loss to SUNY Oswego today, making the Mustangs’ overall record 3-4-1.
The Oswego Lakers started the game with an early goal scored by Tony Greene (Schenectady, NY) only eight minutes into the first half.
The Mustangs answered back netting a goal 15 minutes in by Jarrett Hayes (Potsdam, NY), making it a tie game.
Nearly 20 minutes into the half, the Lakers sent another to the back of Morrisville’s net, this time from Felipe Cavalcanti (Valatie, NY), assisted by Chris Carra (Endwell, NY).
With seconds until half-time, Oswego’s Max Guliani (New York, NY) nets an unassisted goal, kicked in off a save from Morrisville’s goalkeeper Greg Igglesden (Norwich, NY). The Mustangs went into halftime down by two.
Coming into the second half, the Lakers net yet another early goal, this time an unassisted shot by Jim Mertz (Rochester, NY).
In the 51st minute of play, the Mustangs get their second goal of the game scored by Chris Wisdom (Brooklyn, NY), an unassisted goal put past Oswego’s keeper Matt Wopperer (Manlius, NY).
Six minutes later into the second half, Scott Morris (Elizabethtown, NY) netted the third for Morrisville with an assist from Andrew Stein (Oswego, NY).
The game ended with a final score of 4-3, Lakers, making Oswego’s overall record 1-6.
The Mustangs return to the field Sept. 29, playing Southern Vermont College on Morrisville’s home field.
Morrisville State enters its third year as a provisional member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2008. Upon successful completion of the provisional period, Morrisville State will be a candidate for full accreditation as a member of the NCAA.
