MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletic department has named junior hunt seat equestrian rider Emma Monte (East Rochester, NY) and freshman ice hockey forward, Matt Salmon (Orillia, ONT) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 8, 2009.
Monte was high point rider for the hunt seat team at the Cornell show and qualified for regionals in the novice equitation on the flat, following her first place finish in both the novice equitation over fences and novice equitation on the flat classes.
To date, she has tied for high point or has claimed the high point rider honors at both shows. Monte helped move the hunt seat team into 2nd place in the region after the weekend competition.
Monte is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the college’s honor society, and has been named to the Dean’s List several times throughout her coursework at Morrisville State.
The graduate of Lewis Obourn High School is majoring in equine management at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Deb and Paul Monte of East Rochester, New York.
Salmon tallied two goals and an assist over the weekend to assist Morrisville State hockey to a 1-1 week. On Friday Salmon assisted a goal in the overtime loss to Brockport and followed with a two goal performance on Saturday, including the overtime winner, in the 4-3 victory over SUNY Geneseo.
Salmon is currently second on the team in scoring, having tallied three points in four games.
A graduate of Twin Lakes Secondary School, Salmon is majoring in business administration at Morrisville State. He is the son of Kim and Randy Salmon of Orillia, Ontario.
