MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville State College athletic director, Greg Carroll, and head ice hockey coach, Brian Grady, are pleased to announce the addition of Ted Fauss to the hockey coaching staff this season. Fauss will work with the Mustangs defensive unit.
Fauss, a Clinton, N.Y. native, spent seven years in the professional ranks with five different organizations in both the National Hockey League (NHL) and American Hockey League (AHL).
He began his hockey career at the youth level in Clinton and quickly developed into a dominate player for Clinton High School. Following graduation, he was recruited to play for Clarkson University, a Division I ECAC powerhouse, as a defenseman.
After a stellar four-year playing career for the Golden Knights, Fauss was signed by the NHL’s Montreal Canadians following graduation in 1983, and spent the following three seasons with their AHL affiliates in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Sherbrooke, Quebec. He played for Sherbrooke when they won the AHL’s Calder Cup in 1985.
Fauss signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1986 and played the following two seasons with the Leafs and AHL Newmarket Saints before moving to the AHL Binghamton Whalers in 1988, playing in 53 games and recording 15 points. He closed out his career with a two-year stint with the Utica Bulldogs and the Utica Blizzard of the Colonial Hockey League (CHL), playing from 1993 to1995.
Fauss returned to his alma mater in 1991 to serve as the assistant coach of the Clinton High School hockey program until 1994 and later joined the Hamilton College hockey staff as an assistant coach and defensive specialist for seven seasons.
Morrisville State opens its 2009-10 campaign Friday, October 30 at Elmira before returning to Mustang ice on Saturday (31st) for its home opener against the Eagles.
