Morrisville State College sophomore, Wheeler Brunschmid (Sherburne, NY) placed fourth overall in the 184 pound weight class to lead the Mustangs wrestling team to a tenth place finish at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational Saturday and Sunday Nov. 7 and 8 in Ithaca.
In the first round, Brunschmid posted a pin over opponent Connor Holmes (Ithaca) and followed with a 5-3 decision over RWU’s Phil Ernest. In the semi-final’s Brunschmid dropped a 11-2 decision to Brennan Ward (Johnson and Wales) and advanced to the third/fourth place round with a 11-3 victory over Ithaca’s Jamie Facenda. Sabino Galassi (NYU) posted a 6-1 decision, giving Brunschmid the fourth place finish.
Ithaca won the invitational with 160 team points, followed by Cortland with 143.5. Other team finishes: Johnson & Wales 99.5, Springfield 93, BYU 88, RWU 83.5, Hunter 54.5, Oswego 51, Centenary 49, and Morrisville State 27.
Morrisville State returns to the mats, November 21st, at the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragon Invitational in Oneonta.
