Thanks Voters

Thanks Voters thumbnail

To the Editor:

Kudos to all those who voted.  A pox on those who couldn’t be bothered. A special thanks to those who voted  for me and for the good men who stood for election on the Democratic and Unity party lines in Madison.

You may have been surprised to have been asked to vote on two propositions that change your town government.  Your town made no effort to tell you about it in advance so that you could discuss it with friends and neighbors before making up your mind.

I hope we voted to extend the term of the highway superintendent to four years; that’s a full-time job.  I hope we kept the supervisor on a short two year leash.

You should expect those you elected to know that Madison is not just those folks who live along Route 20, or on State and county roads, but also those on the town roads, paved and unpaved.

You should expect those you elected to make an effort to keep you informed, rather than keep you  in the dark like the proverbial mushroom. You should expect your supervisor to  write an occasional piece in the papers.  You should expect your town to have a website like Digital Towpath, used by some other nearby towns, so you can know the agenda of public meetings and read the minutes next day.

You should expect those you elected not to disappear until next election.
