(Chittenango, NY) Madison County Habitat for Humanity is pleased to announce that the CNY Coalition for Healthy Indoor Air, Inc. (CNYHIA) is providing a grant for the building materials used to install a passive radon gas reduction system at the Habitat house under construction at 606 Dyke Road in Chittenango.

The Chittenango Build construction team installed the radon system pipes prior to pouring the basement slab, and will extend the radon pipe to the roof.  Adding the system during the home’s construction is a relatively simple solution and offers ongoing protection against elevated radon gas levels throughout the lifetime of the home.

Upon completion, the Habitat homeowner Jessie Wallis will receive a free radon test-kit from the NYS Department of Health. To learn more about CNYHIA and the need for radon protection, visit CNYHIA’s website at www.cnyhealthyair.org.

When Habitat construction scheduler Rod Collins inquired about passive radon gas reduction systems, he was informed that there was a high-efficiency 50-gal gas water heater available for the Chittenango Build, courtesy of the Cortland County Community Action Agency Inc. Energy Services Department.  For Collins, it was another positive example of the community response to the Habitat for Humanity project.

For more information about Madison County Habitat for Humanity, the public is invited to attend the Habitat Community Night at the Sullivan Free Library in Chittenango, 7 PM on October 6.

To contact the Habitat build team, call Coordinator Dennis Doerr at 687-7355, or via email at ChittenangoBuild@gmail.com.  The volunteer workday schedule is available online at www.HabitatforHumanityChittenango@ning.com.  Donations and inquiries can be mailed to HFH Chittenango Build, P.O. Box 12, Chittenango NY 13037.
