Child Care Council encourages parents to prepare in advance for snow days

Child Care Council encourages parents to prepare in advance for snow days thumbnail

As winter weather arrives, the Mid-York Child Care Coordinating Council, Inc. reminds parents to prepare ahead of time for child care arrangements for their children on snow days.

“Unfortunately, all too often we receive phone calls from parents on a snow day seeking a child care referral for their child for that same day,” said Lorraine Kinney-Kitchen, executive director of the Child Care Council. “It is extremely difficult for us to help a parent find care with that last-minute notice.

The Child Care Council maintains a listing of all New York State regulated family and group family child care programs, child care centers and school-aged child care programs in Herkimer, Madison and Oneida counties. They provide a free child care referral service that provides parents seeking child care with a listing of programs matching their family’s needs, as well as tips on how to select a child care program they can trust.

For more information, or to receive a child care referral, contact the Child Care Council in Oneida County at (315) 223-7850, in Herkimer County at 867-1555, or in Madison County at 361-1890.
