Madison Cortland ARC and the Arc of Oneida Lewis are pleased to offer a full day seminar on Tuesday, September 22, “Advances in Understanding and Interventions- Autism Spectrum Disorders and Asperger’s Syndrome in Children.”
The seminar will be given by Dr. Celine Saulnier, the Training Director for the Yale Autism Program at the Yale Child Study Center, where Dr. Saulnier and a team of doctors supervises and conducts diagnostic evaluations for both the Infant and Toddler Clinic and the School-aged Developmental Disabilities Clinic.
Through her research, teaching and writing, Dr. Saulnier has made significant contributions to the field of Asperger’s Syndrome and Autism. She has been awarded the Margaret L. Bauman, M.D. Award for Excellence in Serving the Autism Community: Distinguished Service Award, and is a contributing author to a number of publications on Autism including “The Handbook of Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorders, Volume 2”.
“We are very fortunate to have Dr. Saulnier present this program. We welcome anyone interested in learning more about Autism to attend,” says Raymond Lewandowski, Executive Director of Madison Cortland ARC.
At the end of the seminar, attendees will be able to:
• Describe differences between Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.
• Identify multidisciplinary assessments and diagnostic procedures in useful in evaluating individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD’s).
• Describe key elements in appropriate educational programs, as well as specific teaching strategies for the varying presentations of individuals with ASD’s.
• Indentify various social skills interventions and communication strategies for younger and older individuals with ASD’s.
• Identify common pitfalls in treatment and intervention services.
This program will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Shenandoah Golf Club of Turning Stone Resort in Verona, NY and is for families, NYSARC staff, teachers and professionals. The cost will be $50 for a family member, $60 for a NYSARC staff person and $70 for a teacher or other professional. Registration deadline is Tuesday, September 15.
