How did you get interested in this field?
Early exposure through my father’s engineering office
What is your background in the industry/service?

How has the business been received in the community?
In 7 years I have served almost 200 clients and achieved Better Business Bureau’s top rating
What is the biggest challenge you face as a business right now, and why?
The slow economy is causing people to postpone home improvements.
What are the biggest opportunities?
With everyone now aware of climate change, energy saving upgrades are more important than ever.
What do you think is the biggest misconception about the field?
I’m not sure about the biggest misconception, but one misconception is that hiring an architect is only for the wealthy. While it’s true that using published plans from a catalog is cheaper (those plans can be sold many times over like a book), you also receive much less service for your money. Catalog plans are not customized for your site and sometimes do not even meet local codes without modification. Plus, if you want changes made to the plans, the publishing architect will offer to do that (usually for a fee much higher than mine), but they still will not be aware of your particular site constraints or opportunities.
An architect can help you by suggesting design solutions you never would have thought of, and often can save you money in the process. S/he will show you 3-D renderings of your project so you can know how it will look before it’s built, since changes are much easier, quicker, and cheaper on the computer than after they’re built.
What are your plans for the business for the next year?
I’ll be continuing to offer creative design solutions for residential and commercial customers.
What are your plans for the business for the next five years?
Going forward, I plan to encourage much more energy-efficient designs and the use of alternative energy sources such as solar and wind power.
