Save the Mural for Hamilton

Save the Mural for Hamilton thumbnail

Submitted by Rotarian Charlie Naef

Picture by Rotarian Lorna Wilson shows presenter Rotarian Roger Bauman and speaker Denise Leone.

(Hamilton, NY) Lee Brown Coye, a well-known artist and illustrator, and his wife Ruth moved in the mid-1950s from Syracuse to Hamilton, desiring to live and work in a friendly small village. Here Lee had his own studio until his death in 1981.

Village resident Denise Leone, a gifted and well- known artist spoke to the Hamilton Rotary Club as a member of the Save the Mural campaign. Lee’s irreplaceable large mural is composed of several panels showing scenes from Hamilton’s history.  It still can be viewed on the upper wall of the lobby in the Hamilton Post Office, where it has been for many years on loan from the owner.  Because this unique historic work of art has been put up for sale, a group of citizens is trying to save the mural for Hamilton by raising $30,000 by the end of this January.
