(Hamilton – Nov. 21, 2009)  When Joy Schrank Canning established her dance studio in 1984, she held foremost the philosophy that the arts experience should be a happy one. Today, she teaches nearly 100 students in dance methods as diverse as hip hop, jazz, tap and ballet. Regardless of the dance style, Canning places emphasis on the individual student’s progress, personal expression and gaining expertise. The result is a dancer who achieves the satisfaction of seeing their own goals met.

Jennifer Rollins’ daughter Taylor has taken lessons at Joy’s Dance Studio since the age of two. Rollins has even taken dance classes there herself.

“Taylor loves it,” Rollins said, “she’s learned pre-school movement, tap and jazz, hip hop and ballet.” Rollins also appreciates that Joy’s is close by to their Bouckville home.

As Canning marks 25 years of teaching dance at the premier dance studio in the greater Hamilton area, she appreciates the connection she has to the community and her students.

“I never envisioned how much I would love and cherish the Hamilton community,” said Canning, her eyes lighting up. “I have watched so many children grow, dance, and flourish. I have truly loved every minute of it!”

As an anniversary special, Canning is offering hip hop dance classes at the discounted rate of $35/month and has arranged for Birnie Bus Service to provide after school transportation from Hamilton and Madison Central schools.

“Having classes directly after school will give families more quality time together,” said Canning. Now, evenings can be less hectic with more time for homework and family dinners.

Joy’s will also welcome a new hip hop dance teacher, Laurie Hotaling, whom Canning has known for more than 20 years and has first-hand knowledge of her dancing skill.

“All our teachers are professionally trained, well qualified and joyful instructors,” added Canning. Joy’s reputation of quality dance instruction is built on Canning’s own experience, studying at Kent State University, teaching at Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute, and choreographing Colgate’s Dance Theater for 20 years.

On Saturday Nov. 21, Joy’s Dance Studio will be hosting an Open House to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The community is invited to come enjoy refreshments, door prizes and ask questions about dance programs.

For more information call Joy’s at 315-824-1571 or email canning74@verizon.net.
