Hear original songs by our previous winning artists:
2007 Zach Collins of Same Blood Folk, Hamilton http://www.myspace.com/samebloodfolk
2008 Emelia Failing Band, Utica http://www.myspace.com/emeliafailing
The demos produced are online at the links above. Mr. Collins’ four songs include Death and The Devil, When The Train Comes In, I Hope She Don’t and Make Believe, which have produced almost 9000 plays from fans. Ms. Failings four songs Dream on Dreamer, Listen, Greatest Mistake and They’re Not Watching have produced a total of over 5500 plays since they were first posted.
If you are thinking about entering: Music submitted for consideration must be original and have been created by the submitting songwriter. No covers!
All styles of music are acceptable provided that the music can be presented within the logistical constraints of the Palace Theater and can be appreciated at sound pressure levels under 100 dB.
The judges recognize that not all styles of music can be measured with the same yardstick. Nevertheless, the judges will be considering the timeless elements of what makes a good song: conveyance of emotion or an idea; melody; phrasing; word craft; and the ability stand out in a world full of bland, copycat music.
Songwriters are allowed to have others perform their compositions, but those who perform at the Palace if selected must have performed the submitted music. Selected songs may be performed by a single person or by an ensemble. Please outline the details in your submission form so that our sound person can do the best job of supporting your performance. Since the event is about live performance, the judges must be convinced that the submitter’s live performance will be a valuable experience.
Successful submitters will be notified at least one week prior to the Showcase. The Earlville Opera House will present the third Youth Showcase of Singer-Songwriters on November 7th at 8 pm at the Palace Theater, 19 Utica St. in Hamilton. Six to eight songwriters will be selected for the showcase that will have a panel of new judges with backgrounds in music. Those selected should be able to supply lyrics and bios for a printed program.
