Mills Seeks Another Term in Town of Hamilton

Mills Seeks Another Term in Town of Hamilton thumbnail

To the Town Of Hamilton Residents:

I am seeking your continued support on November 3rd. Since being elected to Town council 12 years ago I have served with an energetic, common sense approach in dealing with the towns issues.

In serving locally I am extremely aware that it is important to provide the most efficient services possible and stay within budget. Through careful long range planning and a fiscally disciplined approach we continue to remain debt free and we should all be proud of that. Once a township goes down the road to debt it’s difficult to borrow its way out. We have done shared services for years to keep spending down and will continue those practices. Many other potential cost saving measures will continue to be studied and implemented if feasible.

There are many issues that have come up over the years, some that were foreseen ahead of time and some that were not. I have always been available to discuss a wide range of issues with many different people. I don’t have all the answers all of the time and I will be first to tell you if I need more research and investigation on an issue. The learning curve for serving on local Town government is continuous.

I have been appointed   by Supervisor Walt Jaquay for 8 years now to support him as Deputy Supervisor. On Council you need someone to delegate local work to, that has the ability to invest extra time and effort and problem solve issues, do extra research to explore options and bring to the rest of the town board. This has allowed Walt to invest more time and energy to the county board of supervisors in representing the Town at County level.

We do have a responsibility with the current two party system to come up with competing candidates and ideas- even locally. But what if the town is running very well with the current mix of people serving? One person I have served with always said,” When we come to council meetings- We leave our hats at the door.” This view always made sense to me.

I do believe in limited government where individual rights supersede. For instance, we do need reasonable zoning but not too regulatory. We do have many important local issues we will face in the near future; we should face them collectively in a bipartisan way.

I do love serving and I do believe one can make a difference serving locally and representing the Town at county level. If you choose your continued support I will pledge to seek your opinions and views on a wide range of issues that affect us and represent us all at local and county level. I am ready to serve as your Town Supervisor and would appreciate your vote on November 3rd.

Thank you.

Scott Mills, Hamilton Town Council and Deputy Supervisor.
