HAMILTON, NY – Based on the success of Hamilton’s first “Art Walk” event in May, MAD Art, Inc. – Hamilton’s community art space and the Hamilton Business Alliance are again collaborating with downtown merchants to feature locally-created and world-renowned art works throughout the historic village’s downtown. The event will take place at a dozen downtown locations during Colgate’s busy Family Weekend – Friday, October 30 through Sunday, November 1.
Art Walks are held in many communities around the country to highlight local artworks and invite residents and visitors to experience the artsy side of town. The event will provide opportunities to meet the artists, see the wealth of talent, visit the town’s historic buildings, and support local businesses.
The Peppermill kitchen/gourmet store will display watercolors by Gail Gale. The Dutch colonial Colgate Inn has a permanent collection of Lee Brown Coye’s paintings, and the Hamilton Public Library will feature the works of local photographers. Across the Village Green, Sushi Blues will display art prints from Karl Blossfeldt’s book Urformen Der Kunst (Art Forms in Nature) and Hamilton’s Whole Foods will exhibit the paintings and banners of the artist known as Hack.
Walk down Lebanon Street Alley to see MAD Art, Inc.’s fall showcase “In Response – Artists Inspiring Artists” exhibit showcasing selected and community artists. At the Barge Canal Coffee Co. you can see watercolors by Robin Jaycox. Swank displays Tim Pryputniewicz’s pen and ink drawings.
Round the corner towards the Palace Theater for a kinetic, interactive art project “Squirt Painting” where participants can wear t-shirts that will be “squirted with paint” or be the one squirting paint onto others. For a more demure appreciation of wearable art, visit Evergreen Gallery to see handcrafted jewelry created by Lisa Oristian of Kissing Dog Design. Next door, at Steph, view the photography and fabric art of Tory Nicole.
The Hamilton Post Office, which will be open Friday until 4:45 pm, and Saturday until 11:30 am, has works on permanent display by Denise Stillwaggon Leone and Lee Brown Coye.
Organizers hope to continue Hamilton’s Art Walk throughout the year, showcasing the area’s wealth of creative endeavors. For more information, call 315-824-1843, email madartinc@gmail.com, or visit the MAD Art website, www.madartinc.org.
