To the Citizens of Hamilton:
My name is Bob Kuiper. As candidate for Town Supervisor, I run on my record in town, county and village government and my reputation for cooperating across partisan divisions. I offer experienced leadership in meeting new challenges facing our town and county.
As a fiscal conservative, I believe government can promote change for the public good. Listening to local citizens and cooperating with other elected officials I plan to improve and coordinate local governance to save taxpayer dollars.
New local sources of energy – wind, solar, geothermal and natural gas – can benefit farmers and help the community. But corporate interests must be prevented from taking unfair advantage of landowners, infringing on the rights of neighbors, endangering the environment, and placing burdens on taxpayers. I will promote at the Town, County and State level policies serving landowners and the common interest.
After serving in the US Army, I settled in Hamilton 50 years ago. As a local businessman and community-minded citizen, I was elected village trustee, soon mayor of Hamilton. Then I served as town and village justice.
My interest in town and county governance led to my election as Hamilton town supervisor. For 7 terms I represented Hamilton in Wampsville, chairing for six years the County Board of Supervisors. I played leading roles in constructing a new county jail and veterans building, closing and selling of the old Gerrit Smith Nursing Home and establishing the new Crouse Community Center in Morrisville.
I served the community as a volunteer firefighter — now honorary member. I continue to be active after having been a leader in Rotary, Hamilton Club, American Legion, and St. Thomas Episcopal Church. I served as a director of the Alliance Bank and gave impetus to the creation of the volunteer SOMAC Ambulance Unit and the Mid- York Senior Homes, where I continue to serve on the board of directors after many years as president.
I continue to be guided by a firm belief in the principles of equality and quality. I ask you to show your support for good government by voting on November 3rd.
Sincerely, Bob Kuiper, Hamilton
