Crowley Named Recipient of 2009 Silver Puck Award

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Bruce Crowley `79 has been named the recipient of the 2009-2010 Silver Puck Award. It was announced Saturday evening at a banquet at the Hall of Presidents following Colgate’s 3-2 victory over Dartmouth.

Crowley becomes the 47th recipient of this award, which began back in 1960 as J. Howard Starr received the inaugural award. The Silver Puck Award is handed out by the Silver Puck Club, the fundraising arm of Colgate men’s hockey and is given to a person or people whose continued support and contributions to the Colgate men’s hockey program warrant special recognition and applause. It has been awarded on an annual basis since 1981.

Four Gold Pucks have been awarded over the years – the last coming back in 2000 when the 1989-90 ECAC title winner and NCAA runner-up squad was honored. Legend Gordie Howe was the recipient of the Gold Puck Award back in 1984.

Crowley follows David Conte ’71, who was honored last season by his alma mater. Conte, who laced it up three years for the Raiders, served as Executive Vice President, Hockey Operations and Director of Scouting for the New Jersey Devils.

Crowley serves as a Managing Director of Bruce Crowley Advisory Services, LLC. His association with the Colgate men’s hockey program began back in 2006 and his efforts have been instrumental in the Raiders’ success on and off the ice. His work focuses on understanding the underlying motivational needs of the student-athlete; their self-awareness and ability to perform to the best of their abilities under stress and pressure. His information has becomes crucial to Colgate head coach Don Vaughan and his coaching staff relative to how to bring the best out if each individual; knowing the staff has to approach each individual differently in order to achieve positive results. This information doesn’t just stop with the individual student-athlete on the roster, but for the entire team as well. Since 2006, Crowley has met with all the hockey student-athletes individually and as a group and has developed strategies for the coaching staff to maximize performances.
