(Hamilton, NY) Once again MAD Art, Inc. rallies the local community to create a new area feature that will benefit our many local artists and artisans – a Sculptural Wood-Fired Earthen Oven. You, too, can join in the fun and even play in the mud.
The “Mud Oven” is the culmination of a three season project, Re-Art/Re-Use, and can be used by ANYONE in the community for free with the donation of some wood for fuel. Join us on two consecutive weekends September 26th & 27th and October 3rd & 4th from 10 am to 4 pm at COMMON THREAD Community Farm at 3424 Lake Moraine Rd., Madison, NY.
In addition to helping build the oven, we need help collecting recycled materials for the oven, such as: sharp sand, firebricks, wine bottles, concrete blocks, foundation rock, corrugated roofing, newspaper, sawdust, straw, shovels and mortar tools.
The oven will be a traditional wood fired dome oven. We are re-using mud, sand and as much recycled material as possible. The finished oven will be available for use by the community. This process can easily be adapted to your own backyard. Whether you come to build the community oven or to learn how to build your own, this is a free event for all ages.
To quote Kiko Denzer, author of Build Your Own Earth Oven, “Shared Mud Ovens have long been the heart of communities. Mud is fun, mud is art, mud is fast, mud is cheap, mud is community, mud is adaptable, and mud is brick!”
Upcoming MAD Art classes include: “Online Publishing for Artists and Photographers” from 6:30 to 8 pm on Sept. 17th, and “Sketchbook Journaling” from Noon to 4 pm on Sept. 20th.
