Colgate Women Dominate Dartmouth

Colgate claimed firsts in 15 of 16 races and posted the top three finishes in four events in a convincing 203-94 victory over Dartmouth, Sunday afternoon Nov. 22 at the Karl Michaels and Spaulding Pool.

Colgate, which improved to 2-3, led from start to finish. Emma Santoro (Fall River, Mass.) and Caren Guyett (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) were both quadruple winners, while Kim Siembieda (Narberth, Pa.) won three events.

The Raiders opened the competition by taking the top two spots in the 200 medley relay as the foursome of Lia Kunnapas (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.), Santoro, Kate Murphy (Williamsburg, Va.) and Sarah Sciarrino (Buffalo, N.Y.) just missed entering the top 10 list at Colgate with a winning time of 1:50.63.

Guyett led a one-two-three sweep in the second event – 1650 free. The junior was clocked at 17:30.52 while Erika Mortenson (Chesterfield, Mo.) and Caitlin Dwyer (Hicksville, N.Y.) were second and third respectively. Colgate duplicated the feat in the next event as well as Santoro, Erica Derlath (Garden City, N.Y.) and Kunnapas placed first, second and third respectively in the 200 free. Santoro won the event with a 1:55.53.

Colgate’s other top three sweeps came in back to back fashion as well. Santoro (1:07.86) won the 200 breast with Caitlin Curran (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Becca Murray (Wilmington, Del.) placing second and third, while Erin McGraw (Penfield, N.Y.) won the 200 fly with a 2:07.04 while Derlath and Kunnapas placed second and third.

The Raiders took the top two spots in two individual events. Siembieda edged Sarah Button (Mendham, N.J.) with a winning time of 1:00.72 in the 100 back and Kunnapas posted a 2:04.74 to out touch Derlath in the 200 back.

Other victories came from Siembieda in the 50 free (25.05); Guyett in the 100 free (54.51); Curran in the 200 breast (2:26.99); Guyett in the 500 free (5:01.48); Santoro in the 400 IM (4:40.31) and the team of Sciarrino, Siembieda, Guyett and McGraw in the 200 free relay (1:37.25).

Diver Kim Pilka (Great Falls, Va.) claimed both the one-meter (262.20) and three-meter (261.00) events.

Colgate returns to action January 9 as it hosts Bucknell.
