(Hamilton, NY) Following its weekend split with a pair of nationally-ranked foes, the Colgate men’s hockey team moved into the top 20 of the USCHO.com Men’s Division I Poll, it was announced earlier Monday, Nov. 23.
Colgate will take the 20th ranking into its meeting with Cornell, Tuesday evening in Ithaca. The Raiders, who stand 6-3-4 overall and 4-1-1 in ECAC Hockey play, gained 70 votes and edged St. Cloud State by six to inch into the top 20 for the first time since the later part of the 2005-06 campaign.
Colgate comes into the first meeting with Cornell with a 5-1-1 mark in its last seven games. The Raiders dropped a 5-3 decision Friday to Quinnipiac, which moved up four spots to ninth. On Saturday, Colgate recovered with an exciting 5-4 overtime victory over then #19 Princeton, which was its seventh overtime victory in the last two years.
Miami held onto the top spot in the poll with 983 points, while Denver and former 2009 Colgate opponent UMass-Lowell rounded out the top three. The top 20 features seven schools that are on the Raiders’ 2009-2010 schedule. Aside from UMass-Lowell and Quinnipiac, North Dakota (4), Cornell (7), Yale (11), Notre Dame (13), and Nebraska-Omaha (19) reside in the most recent poll.
