ITHACA, N.Y. – Mattie Prodanovic’s goal with under 10 minutes left in the game led Cornell to a 2-1 victory over visiting Colgate in field hockey action, Tuesday.
Cornell, now 8-1 overall, took the lead for good at 61:01 as Prodanovic connected on a direct shot off a penalty corner. Catie De Stio and Natalie Appleton were credited with assists.
Big Red, who received votes in the most recent national poll, opened scoring at 18:44 as Kat DiPastina punched in her own rebound.
Colgate answered as time expired in the first half. Peyton Hawkins (Baltimore, Md.) notched her first collegiate goal off a penalty corner attempt at 35:00. Katelyn Nerbonne (Bow, N.H.) assisted on the sophomore’s goal.
Colgate goalie Sarah Pedersen (State College, Pa.) saved 12 shots on the evening, six in each half. Hawkins as well as Adriana Libutti (South Windsor, Conn.) each posted defensive saves.
The Raiders, 1-11 overall, return to action Saturday as it travels to face American. Game time is set for a noon start.
