Chef and culinary instructor offers live cooking demonstration

Hamilton, N.Y. – The Colgate Bookstore will sponsor a live event with chef and culinary instructor Lauren Braun Costello ‘98, who will offer a cooking demonstration (with samples) of new ways to prepare traditional tailgate fare.

This free event will take place on Saturday, November 14 at 11 a.m. under the Colgate Bookstore tent at the tailgating area near Andy Kerr Stadium on the Colgate University campus.

A book-signing will follow.

Lauren Braun Costello developed her craft in the kitchens and classrooms of some of the world’s most renowned chefs and as the owner and Executive Chef of Gotham Caterers in New York City. Today, Lauren is an author, food stylist, and culinary instructor who has gained both local and national media exposure. Her recipes and party-planning advice have appeared in The Los Angeles Times, and she has made several television appearances over the years on WNBC’s Today in New York and News 4 You.

Lauren’s food styling has been featured in various national and local television broadcasts, including ABC’s The View, The Early Show on CBS, and Fox & Friends.

Lauren Braun Costello graduated from Colgate University in 1998.

Lauren Braun Costello is the author of two cooking manuals. ”Notes on Cooking: A Short Guide to an Essential Craft,” co-authored with Russell Reich, is a primer of immediately useful and relevant kitchen guidance.

For the beginner wanting to improve, the seasoned expert looking to review the highest culinary standards, or the food lover seeking a fascinating glimpse into the pursuit of epicurean excellence, “Notes on Cooking” provides a unique and invaluable apprenticeship.

“The Competent Cook: Essential Tools, Techniques, and Recipes for the Modern At-Home Cook,” gives the gourmet wannabe plenty of food for thought, including how to organize the kitchen to maximize space and accessibility, stock the pantry with essential tools and ingredients, master the ten techniques every home chef should know, whip up classic recipes, and use lingo you’ve always wondered about (what is coulis, anyway?).
