HAMILTON, NY—Porter Studios and Fine Arts Gallery will exhibit the work of artist-employees of Golden Artist Colors, an acrylic paint manufacturing company based in New Berlin, NY. The show will feature four regional artists—Jonie Bassett (New Berlin), Scott Bennett (Syracuse), Ulysses Jackson (New Berlin), Sarah Sands (Gilbertsville)—and one employee from Berkeley, California—Nina Deckert. Balancing full and part time positions at GOLDEN with careers as professional artists, these prolific individuals are represented in venues throughout the country: Syracuse, NY, New York City, and Tampa, FL. Curated by Colgate University senior and Art History Major, Ashley Lazevnick, the show will celebrate these artists’ work from a contemporary and historical perspective.
These five artists may use the same medium—Acrylic paint—but their approaches to this product is as varied and dynamic as the product itself. At the same time, there is an overarching sensation that unites their work: motion. John Sterling remarked, “colors answer feeling in man; shapes answer thought; and motion answers will.” The show will explore how the artists use colors and shapes to achieve the ultimate effect of motion. Whether lively or subduded, vibrating or whimsical, figurative or illusive, these paintings truly move beyond the canvas.
The gallery opening will take place October 30th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Porter Studios, and the exhibition will run until December 30, 2009. For more information, contact Ashley Lazevnick by telephone (267) 825-5143 or email alazevnick@colgate.edu or Porter Studios at (315) 228-2228 or info@porterstudioshamilton.com.
