Step Back into the 19th Century for Free Community Day in Cazenovia

Step Back into the 19th Century for Free Community Day in Cazenovia thumbnail

Cazenovia, NY– The Friends of Lorenzo and event chairwoman Elizabeth Koennecke invite families and children of all ages to join 1880’s schoolmarm Mattie Buckland as she opens her classroom during “Community Day” from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 27th at the Rippleton Schoolhouse. Attendees will have the chance to become “students” for an afternoon in a restored one-room schoolhouse and also enjoy live music, square dancing, old-fashioned games, Victorian crafts, pumpkin decorating, wagon rides and cider and donuts during this annual free event.

Rippleton Schoolhouse saw students pass through its doors from circa 1814 until 1931, as it served as one of several one-room schoolhouses in the town of Cazenovia. Donated to Lorenzo in 1996 by Howland and Sarah Auchincloss, and with the support of The Friends of Lorenzo,  the building was moved to Lorenzo in 1997 where it was restored to its 1880’s appearance and is now home to numerous educational activities including 4th grade immersion classes and summer camp for ages 8-11 at Lorenzo.

The Rippleton Schoolhouse is located at Lorenzo State Historic Site, south of the village of Cazenovia along Route 13. For more information, please call (315) 655-3200 or visit www.LorenzoNY.org. Incorporated in 1975, The Friends of Lorenzo is a not-for-profit affiliate of Lorenzo State Historic Site and is dedicated to supporting the many preservation and educational programs at the site.
