MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women’s volleyball opened the 2009 season campaign with a 3-1 win over Route 20 rival Cazenovia College (Sept. 1) Tuesday night in Morrisville.
Morrisville State exploded out of the gate in the first game, claiming the 25-18 win and followed with a 25-18 victory in the second before Cazenovia rallied for a 25-14 win in game three. The Mustangs came from behind in game four, notching the 25-23 win, claiming the 3-1 match win.
Senior Amanda Britton (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) led Morrisville State with 13 kills on the night, adding six service aces, while adding 10 digs and two solo blocks to the defensive game. Junior Nicole Wright (Dryden, NY/Dryden) added six kills and five digs, stopping one solo and two assisted blocks at the net. Sophomore Casie Kimbrell (Croghan, NY/Beaver River) added five kills and four digs.
Cazenovia’s Lauren Harder (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) tallied 12 kills and three service aces as teammate Jessica Converse (Rose, NY/North Rose-Wolcott) added 11 kills and three aces to lead Cazenovia’s offensive game. Defensively, Ashley Kelley (Factoryville, PA/Lackawanna Trail) led the Wildcats with 28 digs.
Morrisville State (1-0) returns to the court Friday evening at the D’Youville College Spartan Invitational in Buffalo for the two day tournament.
Cazenovia (0-1) is on the road Saturday at Alfred University.

Morrisville State begins active membership within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2009-10 and is eligible for NCAA Championship Tournament play.
