CAZENOVIA, N.Y. –The Morrisville State College women’s volleyball team added two more wins to their record today, beating out both Cazenovia College and St. Elizabeth College.
The Mustangs started the day off with a 3-1 win over the Cazenovia Wildcats, winning the first, third and fourth games of the match with scores of 25-19, 25-10, and 25-22.
Amanda Britton (Cazenovia, NY) tallied a total of 19 kills for the Mustangs, along with 25 digs throughout the match. Morrisville’s Ebony Whitfield (Benton Harbor, MI) added 11 kills and seven blocks. Casandra Kimbrell (Croghan, NY) contributed eight kills and 21 digs against the Wildcats while Keli Stewart (Interlaken, NY) helped out with 32 assists and 19 digs.
Lauren Harder (Oneonta, NY) tallied 13 kills for the Wildcats, along with Carissa Wheeler (Aurora, NY) who had 10 kills and three blocks. Samantha Converse (Rose, NY) assisted 17 for Cazenovia and tallied a total of 16 digs overall in today’s match.
The Mustangs next faced St. Elizabeth College, where they beat the Eagles in three games, giving Morrisville State an 11-11 overall record. The scores for the match were 25-13, 25-11 and 25-20.
Britton put down 10 kills for the Mustangs along with 13 digs. Whitfield also tallied impressive stats with six kills, four digs and two blocks. Kimbrell added six kills for Morrisville during the match while Stewart had 21 assists.
The Mustangs return to their court on Saturday, Oct. 24, playing against both SUNY IT and SUNY Cobleskill at SUNY IT.
Morrisville State begins active membership within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2009-10 and is eligible for NCAA Championship Tournament play.
