CAZENOVIA, NY – Corruption, democracy and reform around the world will be the topic for discussion as Colgate University professor Michael Johnston delivers the next Cazenovia Forum lecture. Speaking on “”Mis-measuring Corruption: Wealth, Power, and Global Reform,” Johnston will argue that even though corruption undermines democracy and development in diverse parts of the world, we continue to pursue a one-size-fits-all approach to reform that ignores major contrasts across societies. He will also go through a list of the world’s most and least corrupt countries, offering his perspectives on why they are considered as such.
Johnston is the Charles A. Dana Professor of Political Science at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY. He has studied issues of corruption, democracy, and reform for over 30 years, and has served as a consultant to international organizations and government agencies including the World Bank, United Nations, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and US Agency for International Development.
His most recent book, Syndromes of Corruption: Wealth, Power, and Democracy, won the 2009 Grawemeyer Award for Ideas Improving World Order from the University of Louisville.
This is the 13th event in the Cazenovia Forum lecture series, which was founded in 2006 to promote discussion and understanding of critical issues facing our nation and the world today. The Forum’s events are made possible by large and small donations from local residents and foundations. Further information can be found on the organization’s website at www.cazenoviaforum.com.
