In their second meet of the season, the Cazenovia College men’s and women’s cross country teams continued to improve. With an exceptionally strong field entered in Saturday’s (Sept. 12) SUNY Cobleskill Invitational, the teams showed maturity and grit. Both races were dominated by perennial powerhouse RIT as well as former junior college champions SUNY Delhi and Mohawk Valley Community College, with the deep RIT squads winning both races handily.
Cazenovia College’s men finished 9th out of 12 teams and the women finished 8th out of 13 teams. On the men’s side, Gary Reisman (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) once again led the team with a 53rd place finish, followed by Chris Hawk, Kyle Boeltz, and team newcomer Ittai Levine. And even though running a long 5.2 mile course, several members of the men’s team improved their pace per mile from last week’s 3.7 mile race.
The women’s team continued to show their strength by reducing the time gap between the first and fifth runner to under two minutes. Leading the group was Ashley Todd (Oneida, NY/Oneida) in 31st place, followed closely by her next four teammates: Kayla Edelman (45th), Amy Evans (54th), Megan Buckner (66th), and Valerie Dunn (67th).
Cazenovia will compete in the Hobart Invitational on Saturday, September 19 in their next meet.
