Cazenovia, NY – Cazenovia College announced today that it has received a $2 million gift commitment from The Dorothy and Marshall M. Reisman Foundation (DeWitt, N.Y.) for the naming rights to the College’s Art & Design Building. This gift is the largest single gift in the College’s history.
Dorothy and Marshall M. Reisman owned the Wine Merchants, Ltd. Companies, located in New York, Ohio and Florida, for more than 50 years. Throughout their lives, the Reismans were passionate supporters of community organizations. Marshall was president, board member and chairman of the Jewish Community Center and Temple Adath Yeshurun, and was also on the board of trustees of the Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital, the Central New York Community Foundation, Syracuse Stage, the Culinary Institute of America, and several other boards.
In addition, Marshall served as a Trustee of Cazenovia College from 1994-1997. He and his wife, Dorothy, lived in Cazenovia and continued to support the College over the years. The Reismans were dedicated art lovers; their unique collection was based on their love of living with art objects and not for status. Marshall passed away in February 2009, predeceased by Dorothy.
“The campus community is overwhelmed by the magnitude of this gift and so grateful that it will allow us to honor and remember true friends of the College in the naming of Cazenovia College’s Art & Design Building,” said Cazenovia College President Mark J. Tierno. “Given Dorothy and Marshall’s great appreciation of art, the Foundation determined that the Art & Design Building naming would be a fitting tribute to them.”
Tierno added that Cazenovia College students and employees will continue to benefit from an art facility that contributes to the academic and co-curricular programs of the institution, and the community will benefit from the College’s Art Gallery, which is located in Reisman Hall.
Members of the College community look forward to honoring the Reismans and the Foundation at a naming recognition event to be held in the near future.
The Dorothy and Marshall M. Reisman Foundation remains committed to using its resources to enhance the quality of living throughout Central New York through the support of local organizations.

We use the word “freedom” so often, we probably think we know exactly what it means.
