Adventures Under the Sea at the Cazenovia Public Library

(Cazenovia, NY) As part of Cazenovia’s annual Winter Festival, the Cazenovia Public Library is hosting photographer Dr. Christopher Dascher, who has traveled the planet to capture images of the undersea environment. Children and adults alike are invited to escape the winter by going on an underwater adventure with him on Saturday, February 6th at 10:15 a.m. in the Library Community Room.

Since Dascher’s particular interest is to bring public awareness to endangered species, no creature is too big or too small to be the subject for his camera.

“I have traveled to various locations in the Pacific including Indonesia and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef,” reports Dascher, and “the biodiversity of the South Pacific coral reefs is perhaps the greatest on earth and home to a vast array of species found nowhere else on earth.”

With overfishing and other human activities such as shark finning destroying these natural wonders, Dascher hopes to raise public awareness to these issues and to help protect these fragile marine environments.

In addition to the slide presentation on February 6th, a selection of Dascher’s photos will be on exhibit in the Library Art Gallery during the month of February. These images represent only a small sample of the animals he has encountered in his travels, from Great White sharks off the coast of Mexico to nudibranchs in Bali. Additional photos can be seen on his website at www.cdascher.com.

When not diving, Dascher is a professor of Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City where he performs research in immunology and microbiology.

“Adventures Under the Sea” is free and open to the public. For more information, call 655-9322 or visit www.midyork.org/cazenovia.
