A Tribute to the Original Inhabitants of Stone Quarry Hill

(Cazenovia, NY) Stone Quarry Hill Art Park will host an exhibition of Native American Art:  A Tribute to the Original Inhabitants of Stone Quarry Hill, featuring many styles of art by members of the Haudenosaunee—and a specially created tribute to the Six Nations of the Haudenosaunee by Stone Quarry Hill Art Park board member, Bob Rose.  In honor of the history of the Haudenosaunee’s presence on the land, Rose has created a structure using corn, beans, squash and tobacco entitled The Haudenosaunee Three Sisters Sculpture. The Three Sisters is part of the Creation Story of the Haudenosaunee.

In addition to the sculpture by Rose, the exhibition features the intricate basketry of exhibition curator Ronnie-Leigh Goeman, of the Onondaga Nation.  Her baskets are woven from black ash and sweet grass, decorated with porcupine quills and moose hair, and each has delicately carved figures sculpted from antlers by Stonehorse Goeman, of the Seneca Nation.

Also featured in the exhibition is a hand-made birch-bark canoe, created and painted by Mohawk artist Roger Cook, delicate beadwork by Onondagan Karelyne Hill, sculptures by Seneca-Cayuga Native Tom Huff, work by potter Tammy Tarbell, and much, much more.

The exhibition will open with a reception from 3:00 – 5:00 on Sunday, October 25.  At 4:00 pm, Bob Rose will dedicate his sculpture.  All are welcome to attend.  Stone Quarry Hill Art Park is located 3883 Stone Quarry Road, Cazenovia.  The exhibition will be on view until November 15.
