Verona, NY— In celebration of School Board Recognition Week, members of the Madison-Oneida Board of Cooperative Educational Services were honored at their October 1st meeting. School Board Recognition Week, which this year is October 19-23, is observed by more than 700 school boards in school districts throughout New York State, and is intended to recognize school board members for their dedicated service to children.
BOCES board members, who represent the nine component school districts of the Madison-Oneida BOCES, are responsible for policy and financial decision-making as well as for the overall operation of the organization.
Current board members, and the districts they represent, include:
Dr. John J. Costello, Sr., Oneida
Edward Connell, Camden
Doug Gustin, Canastota
Robert Pils, Hamilton
Richard Engelbrecht, Madison
Marianne Kincaid, Morrisville-Eaton
Sandra Lockwood, Rome – Vice President
Lee Mennig, Stockbridge Valley
Patrick Baron, VVS – President
Responsibilities of the Board include: Defining the philosophy of the BOCES; Setting goals and objectives to achieve desired education progress; Employing professional educators to meet those goals; Establishing policies for the operation of the BOCES; Evaluating the effectiveness of BOCES programs and services; Developing a budget consistent with educational needs and community resources; Communicating the needs and progress of the BOCES to the community; and Component school districts, educational governing boards, and legislators.
