(Canastota, NY) November and December are busy times for many of us as we plan for the holidays. The Canastota Public Library has programming designed to help you to prepare and enjoy this year’s festive season. The library has workshops, concerts and activities for every member of your family.
The library will begin their Holiday Happenings with a workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Lawson Community Room. Tish Dickinson, the library’s own shabby chic chick will offer us “Economical and Ecological Ideas for a Green Christmas.” Join us as Tish shows us how to make bows for our gifts from leftover wrapping paper. We will also learn how to use bags with embellishments to give them new life. With hands-on demonstrations, Tish will show us how to have a green holiday by reinventing what we already have on hand.
On Tuesday, Dec. 1 Canastota resident Kathy Bruno will help us to create angel ornaments. These simple ornaments will bring a shining elegance to your Christmas tree. Supplies will be provided with a $5 fee for each participant. This program will begin at 7 p.m. in the Library’s Lawson Community Room.
The programming continues on Sunday, Dec. 6 with the Library’s Third Annual Victorian Holiday Tea. Kathy Bruno will facilitate this engaging tea which begins at 1:30 p.m. Join us for tea, desserts, a holiday craft and more. Be sure to wear your holiday best. Admission is $5 per attendee. We encourage grandmas, mothers, daughters and aunts to attend.
At 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6 the Whitelaw Ringers of Praise will perform a Holiday Concert on the library’s second floor. This is a free concert that is sure to have you humming along with these amazing musicians. A reception will follow this concert.
On Saturday, Dec. 12 at noon, Tammy Leggett will offer “Holiday Cards with Tammy.” This is a favorite holiday workshop and space fills up quickly. The event is limited to 15 participants. In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to make three holiday cards for just $5 to pay for supplies. This event will be held in the Lawson Community Room on the lower level of the library.
A Children’s Holiday Workshop is planned for Saturday, Dec. 19 at 1 p.m. at the Canastota Public Library. There is space for 21 attendees. Cost is $3 and the children (aged 7 and up please) will be making gifts and/or ornaments at three different locations. This is a great time for mom and dad to get out and finish their last minute shopping while the kids participate in hands-on activities at the library. This event will take place in the Lawson Community Room. Please call to sign up as space is limited.
The fun will continue on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 3 p.m. with the Mama Pajama Holiday Concert. Mama Pajama regales kids of all ages with her Holiday Concert on the second floor of the Canastota Public Library. This holiday concert is free and open to the public. Mama Pajama is sure to get you in the holiday spirit with this great sing-a-long program.
