Chittenango Falls State Park Announces 2009 Photo Contest Winners thumbnail

Cazenovia, NY—Chittenango Falls State Park is pleased to announce the winners of its first annual photography contest, “The Life of the Falls.” Kathleen Catania of Cazenovia, NY, won first prize with her shot of the top of the falls, entitled “Dancing Falls.” Robert Shoemaker of Canastota took second place with “Prelude to the Falls,” a photo of Chittenango Creek as it approaches the falls.

Ms. Catania received $100 for her prize-winning photo, provided for by Bear Paw Printing in Chittenango and the Chittenango Rotary Club. Mr. Shoemaker received a $50 gift certificate to McGowan’s Hardware Store in Chittenango, donated by the McGowans. Josh Lewis (Kirkville), Robert Cook (Earlville) and Sue Damanski (Chittenango) received Honorable Mentions for their submissions and were given commemorative plaques.

Local professional photographers Gene Gisson Scott Phillips, and Christian Phillips judged the submissions based on their photographic quality as well as on the extent to which they embodied the theme, “Life of the Falls.”

These photos will be on display at the park office starting Monday, September 28th and will also be appearing in park publications next year.

The Park would like to thank all who submitted photos as well as the Chittenango Rotary Club, Bear Paw Printing, and McGowan’s Hardware for supporting the contest. Keep your eyes open for information regarding next summer’s contest!
