Pill Drop a Success

(Town of Lincoln, NY – April 2012) On Saturday April 28 the sixth Safe Pill Drop off was held at the Madison County Landfill on Buyea Road.  This event boasted of 471.50 pounds of pills, by far the most collected at one event.

This year organizers which include Madison County Department of Solid Waste and Sanitation, Madison County Sheriff’s Department, RSVP of Madison County, STOP DWI, Madison County’s Promise, and BRiDGES partnered with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).   The total amount collected for all Safe Pill events is 1878 pounds from 835 households.

The waste medications collected will be disposed of by the DEA using the incineration facility located in Fulton, NY.

Organizers once again combined this event with Free Shredding of confidential papers.  Three tons of paper was collected.

A special thank you goes out to the volunteers from RSVP of Madison County. These volunteers have staffed the event and assisted with outreach and publicity since the first pill drop off in 2009. We appreciate their involvement at the event and in educating the community about the benefits of the Safe Pill Drop Off- keeping our water clean and reducing the availability of drugs of abuse.  Please be on the lookout for our fall 2012 date. The date will be announced shortly.
