Cazenovia Public Library news
(Cazenovia, NY – Aug. 2011) Paintings by Cazenovia artist James Baumbach will be displayed during August and September.
Visitors to the Gallery at the Cazenovia Public Library can enjoy the Abstract Expressionism exhibit by James Baumbach throughout August and September during regular library hours, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
Baumbach grew up in Cazenovia but moved to southern California to attend college. Though not an art major, he was immediately drawn to abstract art after studying the paintings of Jackson Pollock and being intrigued by Pollock’s freeform style.
Baumbach’s initial experience in serious art was designing and building granite/marble mosaic table tops.
“Having the freedom to arrange the pieces in any order I liked appealed to me,” Baumbach said. “I was free to create any type of design I wanted.”
This led to a kind of abstract expressionism of its own, and he found a market for his table tops in the desert area of Palm Springs.
After returning to Central New York, he decided to begin painting as a way of expressing his “visions” in an abstract style, and his efforts are currently focused on acrylic on canvas.
