On Saturday, June 18, at 2 p.m., the Quincy Square Museum in Earlville welcomes Madison County Historian Matthew Urtz. Urtz will give the presentation “Who was the man on Muller Hill: Attempting to find the REAL Identity of Louis Anathe Muller.”

Muller was a mysterious Frenchman who arrived in Georgetown in 1808 to purchase property to clear it and build a large fortress-like home. Rumor had it that he was the second cousin to the Duke of Angouleme and fled France to escape Napoleon Bonaparte.

Only when Bonaparte was sent a prisoner to Elba after his failed march on Russia did Muller return to France. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. and the presentation will start at 2.

For more information, visit quincy.earlville.net or call 315.691.2406.

Urtz will deliver the same presentation Monday, June 20, at 7 p.m., for the Town of Madison Historical Society. This night is part of the Madison Historical Society speaker program, which is offered to the public every third Monday from March to November.

The Historical Society building is located on South Street, Madison (the old American Legion building). There is no cost to attend, but donations are accepted.

Refreshments will be served.
